"Balloon Chase"director: Anna Matz
A modern coming-of-age story exploring what it means to fail and take hold of life. Peter is content with having nothing worth losing, but when Jen comes into his life, Peter's inner conflict comes to a boiling point. (21:00, KY) Director Anna Matz (18) is a student filmmaker from Louisville, Kentucky. In 2015 Matz was named one of 15 finalists in Canon's Project Imagination Trailer Contest sponsored by Ron Howard and Josh Hutcherson for her trailer, "A Reader and a Writer." "Robot"director: Sam Weible
After seeing his classmate, Sam (Eva Grossi), fail the "I am not a robot" captcha test on her email account, Archie (Thad Buchanan), a conspiracy driven robot fanatic, makes it his mission to prove that Sam is, in fact, a real robot. (5:18, KY) Sam Weible is a senior at duPont Manual High School in Louisville, KY. He's been interested in film from a young age and has always been drawn to the comedic (and bizarre) movie genre. He's made a number of odd shorts with his friends over the years and sticks to his belief that while traditional story telling can be interesting, he'd rather make a movie about a robot. |
"Seed"director Alexander Sabad
From the Media Depot Club at the University of Kentucky, comes a short film exploring the mystery of a farm and it's pumpkins. (11:16, KY) The Media Depot Club is a student organization through the University of Kentucky. We give students access to film equipment and a professional production environment. The club has worked with students from all majors who have used their specific skills in our productions. Every production has been done completely by students. |
"Transitive"director: Austin Sarve
Follows a day in the life of two travelers struggling to find their way in a world damaged by an unknown pandemic. (7:10, IN) Austin Sarver is an amateur filmmaker/videographer and aspiring cinematographer from central Indiana. In 2016, he has been involved in making TRANSITIVE, THE NETWORK, THE REALIST, HELLO MALCOLM, LOVE BUZZ, AND TOUCHED, all in collaboration with filmmaker friends across the state of Indiana. |
"Hard Boiled Egg"director: Shira Moolten
A mingling of genres, this short film features both live-action video and spoken word by a young published poet whose work touches on themes of human frailty and existential wonder. (2:18, WV) Shira Moolten is a high school senior. She has attended several film camps and is Co-Editor-in-Chief of her high school literary magazine. Among her other accomplishments, she has been recognized by the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, and Poetry Out Loud. She attended the competitive Sewanee Young Writers Conference last year and has had poems published by Apiary Magazine and Rattle. |
"anacusis"director: Jordan Vescio
Isaac, a young deaf musician, plays a piano in an empty room. As he enters the zone of his own music, Isaac slips in and out of vivid flashbacks of moments in his life. (4:27, KY) Jordan Vescio is from Lexington, Kentucky and is in the School for the Creative and Performing Arts. This summer, she graduated as a 2016 New Media Alumni of the Governor's School for the Arts. She is excited to see her first film that she directed to be screened at Filmslang. |
"Rush 91"director: Matthew Williams
In the bitter winter of 1891, prospectors Webb and Brand tirelessly search for gold in the unrelenting mountains, risking not only their lives, but their humanity. (27:29, KY) Matthew Williams is an independent filmmaker from London, KY. He attended the University of the Cumberlands in Williamsburg, KY where he got his bachelor’s degree in Journalism & Communication and later received a Film Certificate at BCTC in Lexington, KY. RUSH 91 was originally filmed as a student film at BCTC and stars Williams’ close friends Tyler Caldwell, Kyrk Davis, and Jake Roark. He is currently working on an independently funded feature film called CHASER. |
